DC Day One

Image
After a thankfully uneventful trip, the Jones fifth grade toured the Udvar-Hazy branch of the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum.  It was amazing - with samples of aircraft from the era of the Wright brothers to the supersonic Concorde AND Blackbird. After dinner at the Reagan food court and a poto op at the White House, we (eventually) turned in.. Stay tuned for more news from DC!

Fifth grade math students have been writing and presenting simulations they made for our group. Here's a snap of one groups's presentation. These math simulations have been pretty exciting so far. Lots of interesting situations and math to solve!

Reflections on GSSR

Here are some videos of student reflections on our simulation, Great Solar System Rescue: [BTW, work samples from this work were sent home on 3/9 and 3/10.]

3rd Grade Math

Image
The IBJ AIG program has a large and boisterous advanced subject group for math! One thing that has helped with crowd control has been smaller group work. Today we worked on collaborative problem solving. Each of the groups pictured had different assignment based on 4-6 clues. Group had to work together to put the pieces together (figuratively), solve the math involved, and determine the answers. Small groups seemed to be better able to attend the problems. We'll see what responses look like next week!

5th Grade Parents

Often I'm solicited by a number of 'great opportunities' for AIG students. Many of these offer summer programs for students that seem pretty amazing and carry a pretty amazing price tag. Included in this list is the Junior National Young Leaders Conference. I have recently been asked to consider students for JNYLC. If you are interested in pursuing such a program, please contact me, and we can move forward. Here is a link for the program:   JNYLC Here is a news release about the program:   Link to NYT article
