Magnet School Info for Potential Kindergarteners

If you have children ready for kindergarten next year (or know someone who does!) here is some information in regard to the upcoming Magnet Schools Information sessions. 

Families invited to learn more about Asheville City Schools’ Five Magnet Elementary Schools and Preschool 

1.      Asheville City Schools will host  Magnet School Information Nights on Tuesday, January 12, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM at the ACS Central Office Board Room, 85 Mountain Street and on Tuesday, January 19 from 5:45-6:30 PM at the Asheville Preschool, 441 Haywood Road.  The event will include the magnet school enrollment process, highlights of unique program and curriculum areas, a video tour featuring each school and interactive visits to information/resource stations.

2.      Parents/guardians of children who will enter kindergarten on July 20 (Hall Fletcher Elementary on a year-round schedule) or August 29 (Traditional Calendar) are encouraged to attend as well as families new to the district. A child must be five years old by August 31 to enroll for 2016-17. Others who would simply like to become better acquainted with Asheville City’s magnet school program are also welcome.

3.       Asheville City Schools will also host an open house at each of the five magnet elementary schools as well as at the Preschool on Monday, January 25, Tuesday, January 26 and Wednesday, January 27 from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM each day. Parents whose children will enter kindergarten in July or August, newcomers to the community and others interested in learning about their neighborhood school(s) are encouraged and welcome to visit. No appointment is necessary.

4.       The magnet school application period runs from February 1 until March 14, 2016 for enrolling kindergarten students, for new families who are interested in attending an ACS magnet elementary school or for parents who would like to request a transfer within the five schools. Letters of assignment will go out in late spring.
