Math Challenges - Fourth Grade

ASG math groups in fourth grade have been addressing math fluency through challenging puzzles. This week's was a square of sums with missing addends. Students had to complete four such squares in our allotted time - which worked out to be about 30 minutes. I did provide nifty North Carolina pencils for finishers. There will be PLENTY of other opportunities! I'll send  home challenges every couple of weeks, and you can check them out. Wait until you see THIS week's!

What is it? What can it mean? All those weird symbols... Well, these are some examples of how third grade students have ended the story of Fat Cat. This decoding activity had students working to figure out symbols of the Nurtz alphabet. Each symbol represents a letter in our alphabet. The final activity was to finish the story - using the Nurtz alphabet! There was only one clue, btw, ask them about it!

Recently, someone asked about lists of literature for students to consider. Here's a list that's organized by topic or genre. Check them out! There's some new and interesting titles! 3rd Grade: Fat Cat

This is a story about Fat Cat. Third graders began our latest work with this single clue as to the code used for Fat Cat's story.  The story, however, was not complete until students used the code (with their own creativity and art work) to craft an ending.
