UNCA and the Moons of Our Solar System

Our fourth grade ESG students recently completed a solar system-based simulation. As a culmination, today we had a visit from a UNCA astronomy student to discuss the moons of our solar system. Students were interested and had thoughtful questions not only about moons, but also college in general. Dr. Lyubov Nichols of the physics department coordinates these students, and we're ALWAYS happy to have them aboard!

What is it? What can it mean? All those weird symbols... Well, these are some examples of how third grade students have ended the story of Fat Cat. This decoding activity had students working to figure out symbols of the Nurtz alphabet. Each symbol represents a letter in our alphabet. Third graders began our latest work with this single clue as to the code used for Fat Cat's story.  The story, however, was not complete until students used the code (with their own creativity and art work) to craft an ending.
