AIG Update

I would like to thank the AIG families for all your support this year. It was great to get to know 3-5 grade students, and I’m looking forward to work in the new school year.

Here’s a couple of highlights from our year’s end:

THIRD:
Hopefully you’ve talked with your kids about our CSG group’s thinking games. These ThinkFun games were helpful in helping students understand the perseverance needed not only in these tasks, but so many aspects of their lives.  We will continue with such activities (and many others!) at the first of next year.
ESG students hopefully made it home with geometry review sheets (lots of Pentomino work) as well as the famous “Fat Cat” decoding activity. Check them out. These groups, too, will be up-and-running early in the school year!
I’m sure many enjoyed classroom instruction including a variety of math enrichment units, Junior Great Books introductory materials, vocabulary studies, collaborative math exercises, and the “Enigmas” reading units.
I’ve already begun working with fourth grade teachers to kick off services early in the school year. How exciting!

FOURTH:
Where to begin?! I suppose maybe a re-cap of ESG’s excellent work with our simulation, “Great Solar System Rescue.” You may recall these students won the competition by spending the least on their missions. We celebrated at Jones Park – which gave me a chance to reflect on their ages. It’s an important reminder that these are children – who love to scream and run around as well as synthesize multiple sources of information to form consensus decisions about locations and possible solutions for lost space probes.
Other groups plumbed a hands-on approach to algebra, worked with Think Fun games, and read a couple of great novels.
Looking forward to fifth grade!

FIFTH :
Quite a range of activities for our Jones ‘seniors’ as well. A highlight for me was some excellent discussions about short stories with our reading group. That having been said, the math simulation “Adrift”, brought about some great discussions AND cool student projects.  I also can’t forget the ESG work with “Great Ocean Rescue.” Finally, it was kind of sad to take down the giant Moebius strip which had been made by students and displayed in our room. It was delightful to get to know these students, and I wish them the best in middle school.

Thank you all for your kindness and support! Have a great summer!
