AMS in the House

Thursday was a busy day for fifth grade. The Tuvan throat singers and author skyping were on the menu (see below)! And in addition, all fifth grade AIG students met with Marni Cartiff, one of Asheville Middle School's AIG specialists. Ms. Cartiff visited to share with Jones students what AIG services look like at Asheville Middle. We packed everyone in my room and had an informative time! Many thanks to her for her time in preparing Jones students for AMAZING things to come at Asheville Middle!

What is it? What can it mean? All those weird symbols... Well, these are some examples of how third grade students have ended the story of Fat Cat. This decoding activity had students working to figure out symbols of the Nurtz alphabet. Each symbol represents a letter in our alphabet. The final activity was to finish the story - using the Nurtz alphabet! There was only one clue, btw, ask them about it!

Recently, someone asked about lists of literature for students to consider. Here's a list that's organized by topic or genre. Check them out! There's some new and interesting titles!
